Let's Get This Party Started, Old Sport

You're about to transform your place into the Carnegie Mansion and throw a party that'll make even ol' Gatsby proud.

As the host of this event, you'll prepare the game before everyone arrives. Don't worry, there are no spoilers, so you'll get to enjoy every treacherous moment with your friends.

Step 1

Print Your DIY Escape Kit

Open the PDF file from your email download link and print the escape kit on standard A4 paper.

There's no need for high-gloss paper or professional printing, but you'll get the best results by printing at a printing/xerox shop and asking for "200 GSM Satin paper", which gives the game a sturdy, authentic feel and a nice sheen.

The game is designed for teams of 1-5 players. Got a larger group? Just print the kit out several times and run it as a competitive team event.

Bigger Groups
  • 1-5 players Print 1 copy
  • 6-10 players Print 2 copies
  • 11-15 players Print 3 copies
  • 16-20 players Print 4 copies
Envy themed party posters
Optional

Themed Party Posters

The Envy kit also includes optional posters and party invites to make the experience even more immersive. None are required to play, but if you want to go the extra mile, it's totally worth it.

Open the folder Props → Posters and double-click Posters.pdf. You'll likely only want a few, so when you print, type in the page numbers separated by commas.

Photo Booth Props

Your kit also comes with a pack of swanky printable photo booth props, a totally optional add-on that adds a refined level of silly, stylish fun.

Open the folder Props → Photo Booth Props and double-click Photo Booth Props.pdf. Each page has a "classic" and a "corrupted" version, mix and match for a most treacherous affair.

Step 2

Setup the Puzzle Sheets & Props

Envy requires players to solve 10 challenges and combine the results into a Police Report, revealing the culprit.

Envy puzzle sheets fully set up on a table

Simple 5 Minute Setup

  • Place all the puzzle cards in the middle of a table.
  • Solve them in printed order, or tackle them randomly, up to your party.
  • Grab scissors, blank paper, and pens (permanent markers write best on the full-colour sheets).
  • Start solving!

How To Make It More Enigmatic

Place the puzzle sheets in logical spots around your room. For example: the typewriter puzzle on a desk against the wall, the torn-up paper puzzle in a knocked-over bin, and the cocktail puzzle among a coffee table full of martini glasses.

Get The Props Ready For Photos

Cut out the photo booth props and set up a "photo station." Tape skewers on for easy holding, or double-sided tape on the back so players can wear them while playing. The moustaches work best for this crazy affair.

Gatsby background music playlist

Play The Gatsby Background Music

Nothing gets the party started like swinging backbeats crafted for the bloody roaring twenties. Pure debauchery and good vibes, nothing stodgy here.

Open this playlist on your phone and test it plays before guests arrive. There's enough music here for about half an hour of background music before the game starts, and a full hour during the game.

Step 3

When Your Guests Arrive

Playing the Envy escape room kit
  • What's going onExplain how escape rooms work, since they're still new to most players. A good "hook" is asking if anyone's played a digital escape room app.
  • How to solve puzzlesThere are 10 challenges to solve, with the answers written onto the Police Report to uncover the final word combination.
  • If playing with teamsAppoint a team leader. Teams race to finish first, deduct 5 minutes for every hint used.

Ready to play? Then bring your wits, street smarts, and luxurious elegance, and let's get this party started!

Don't forget, if you'd like a hint during the game you can ask Captain Farthing using your Phonogram on the Hints page.
